proMODERN specializes in interpreting works of contemporary music. They have presented the world premieres of several dozen pieces, mainly by Polish composers. The group was founded in 2012. Since then they have performed at many Polish and international festivals including Warsaw Autumn, La Folle Journée de Varsovie, ReMusica, Sacrum Profanum, accompanied by orchestras such as NOSPR, Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus, at most of Poland’s philharmonic halls.
proMODERN has won five Polish music industry Fryderyk awards: in 2015 in the “Best Recording of Polish Music” and the “Choral, Oratorio and Opera Music Album of the Year” categories for their debut album Where Are You? Pieces from Warsaw, and in 2018 in the “Contemporary Music Album of the Year” and, again, the “Best Recording of Polish Music” categories for their second album, proModern Shakespired, which was released in December 2017. Philip Lawson’s piece, which the legendary artist had composed as a commission specially for the group, already had 20,000 streams on Spotify in just two weeks. In 2020 they won Fryderyk award in the “Contemporary Music Album of the Year” for their new album "Comfort zone".
In 2018 proMODERN was nominated for a Coryphée of Polish Music award in the “Discovery of the Year” category for their interpretation of K. Stockhausen’s Stimmung at the KODY festival in Lublin and this recording, the first live one in the world, received a nomination for the Fryderyk 2020 award.
