Włodek Pawlik – Symphonic Pieces

June 24th 2016 is the Polish premiere of Włodek Pawlik's new symphonic and jazz album. He is the only Polish Grammy Award winner. The entiere album “Włodek Pawlik – 4 Works 4 Orchestra” will be presented in full during the premier concert, at the Philharmonic in Szczecin on June 26th 2016.

The record consists of four symphonic pieces: II Piano Concerto, “We Are From Here”, “Cellomania” and “Puls 11/8” performed by ‘Concertino’, the Myślenice Chamber Orchestra under Michał Maciaszczyk and Włodek Pawlik Trio.

A common feature of these compositions is the participation of a jazz rhythm section (excluding II Piano Concerto). Similarly, the participation of one of the most promising young orchestras in Poland, the Myślenice ‘Concertino’ Chamber Orchestra and the presence of soloists. The pieces are characterized by a jazz drive and this is how they correspond to other crossover records by Pawlik such as “Tykocin” and ”Night in Calisia”.

As soloists along with Włodka Pawlika we will see Łukasz Pawlik- pianist and cellist, and Natalia Jarząbek, flautist.

According to the author himself, the pieces come from his jazz and symphonic works, and present the same approach to making music that awed American critics who granted him a Grammy Award for the album “Night in Calisia”. The record exhibits the same so-called “third trend”, yet the proportions are reversed i.e. there is more symphony on it than jazz.

“It is a unique collection of my compositions whose main distinguishing feature is the setting – widely understood contemporary music, classical (with elements of jazz) and improvised music. I hope it creates a homogeneous whole, showing my lesser known image as a composer.”
