Music is like a dream. One that I cannot hear – Ludwig van Beethoven once wrote. The composer, suffering from hearing loss, created a symphony whose philosophical scope seems to encompass the entire universe, carrying an unchangingly moving message of peace and brotherhood. Ten years ago, in 2014, Beethoven's 9th Symphony opened the new Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin. It was a breakthrough not only in the history of the orchestra and the institution but also for the city and the region, much like Beethoven's 9th Symphony was for music itself.
As we inaugurate the 2024/2025 season, we also turn to Polish music. The world premiere of Little Big Bend Music for orchestra by Mikołaj Piotr Górecki, a piece composed specifically for this concert by one of the country's most esteemed contemporary composers, will take place.
Additionally, the evening will feature the Violin Concerto No. 5 in E minor by Feliks Janiewicz, a composer from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, often called the "Polish Paganini." In the golden hall, we will host one of the best choirs in the country, leading Polish singers. The solo part in Janiewicz's concerto will be performed by a world-renowned violinist born in Szczecin.
This evening, the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be led by maestro Przemysław Neumann, for the first time as the general and artistic director of the Philharmonic and the principal conductor.
