Concert with audience / paid online broadcast
Symphony Hall | Live Filharmonia
The concert is focused on minimalist, repetitive music in its various forms. The composers' individual approach to understanding minimalism as a trend and idea takes the form of a spiritual asceticism of Arvo Part on the one hand and an energetic and intense, and sometimes mechanical perpetual motion machine of John Adams on the other. These are also poignant and, in their repetition, disturbing sounds of Tomasz Sikorski. But, on the other hand, they give relief or a kind of optimistic finale by Michael Nyman. The works that make up the concert repertoire contradict the thesis that minimalist music is supposed to be one-dimensional and, given the formal assumptions, be subject to immediate exhaustion.
Jonathan Stockhammer will conduct the orchestra. At an early age, he made a name for himself in the world of opera, symphonic repertoire and contemporary music. In addition, he studies music, which blurs the boundaries between genres: classical, rock, pop and hip hop.
